I made some of mine from Formica, countertop laminate. I also used 1/8" plywood on some too.
Either way I used pop rivets for the pivots. Pulled the riverts just til they snug the joint then stopped and hammer the pop nail back out of the rivet. Poping the nail with the rivet gun seems to be too tight and breaks the formica sometimes.
